6-Inch vs 7-Inch PIR LED Ceiling Lights: A Commercial Buyer’s Guide
Share
The larger fitting is not automatically the brighter one. Selix Kala's listed 6-inch PIR disk downlight is rated at 15W and 1,230 lumens, while its 7-inch PIR slim flush mount is rated at 12W and 1,000 lumens. They also differ in dimming and colour-temperature choices. For a commercial property, compare the intended room and controls before treating them as interchangeable.
This guide covers the two specific products in our motion sensor ceiling-light collection. It does not generalize these specifications to every 6-inch or 7-inch fixture.

Start with fit and the existing control
Record the ceiling construction, existing fitting and mounting arrangement. The nominal size in a product name should not be used as a cutout measurement or proof of junction-box compatibility. Send photographs and ask your installer to confirm the required dimensions and mounting details before ordering a batch.
If the room already has a dimmer, identify its make and model. The 7-inch product is listed as non-dimmable, so it should not be selected on the assumption that it can replace a dimmable light without a control review. The 6-inch product's dimmable description also does not mean every existing dimmer is compatible. Obtain the model-specific compatibility information.
Check what the sensor can actually see
PIR controls depend on movement within their field of view. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's lighting-controls guide explains the importance of line of sight and the effect of obstructions. A partition, shelving or an open door can make a seemingly central ceiling position unsuitable.
For a storeroom, mark shelving and the normal walking route. For a small work area, describe both movement and periods of seated work. Ask for coverage information at the proposed mounting height; this comparison does not establish a detection distance for either product. Do not select a sensor-equipped fixture solely because a room is small.
Define the desired behaviour before purchasing
Write down what should happen when someone enters, while they remain in the room, and after they leave. Ask the supplier to confirm the available time delay, override and daylight-related functions in the specific model instructions. These functions should not be inferred from the words “PIR” or “motion sensor.”
For shared circulation or any area with special lighting requirements, have the installer determine an appropriate control arrangement. Do not assume automatic switch-off is suitable everywhere or that these products replace a separately specified emergency-lighting system.
Use a sample to resolve the practical questions
- Confirm the exact model and compatible mounting arrangement.
- Choose a colour setting that suits the adjoining spaces; more CCT options do not mean greater brightness.
- With the installer, check the normal entry route and expected activity throughout the room.
- Observe the response after the room becomes empty and when someone returns.
- Record the agreed settings and any unresolved compatibility questions before ordering the remaining quantity.
A sample assessment helps check suitability; it does not establish identical performance in rooms with different layouts. Keep a separate room schedule for spaces with partitions, different ceiling heights or different controls.
What to include in your quote request
Send the room type, quantity, mounting height, photographs, existing control details and preferred CCT. Identify whether you want the 6-inch disk or 7-inch flush-mount model compared, and ask for written confirmation of installation compatibility.
Request a PIR ceiling-light quote from Selix Kala. If you are also evaluating incentives, use our separate occupancy-sensor rebate guide and request a current model-specific check. A sensor or product listing alone is not confirmation of an incentive.
