1x4 vs. 2x2 vs. 2x4 Commercial LED Flat Panel Lights: 2026 Ontario Buyer & Rebate Guide
Share
Buying commercial LED flat panels starts with a ceiling schedule. An office may have square tiles in one room, rectangular openings in another and a solid reception ceiling that needs a separate mounting solution. Sending a supplier only “LED panels” leaves those differences unresolved. This guide compares the three currently listed Selix Kala formats and the purchasing decisions that matter before a contractor places a bulk order.
Use it alongside the office panel rebate guide. That guide covers the wider rebate enquiry; this page concentrates on size selection, order quantities and configuration.
1x4 vs. 2x2 vs. 2x4: compare the order, not just the shape
| Format | Current product | Listed electrical and colour options | Pack and sensor choices |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1x4 | Narrow rectangular backlit panel | 120–347V AC; selectable wattage up to 40W; 5-CCT | 4-pack; Sensor Base or No Sensor Base |
| 2x2 | Square Jupiter panel | 120–347V AC; selectable wattage up to 40W; 5-CCT | 4-pack; Sensor Base or No Sensor Base |
| 2x4 | Rectangular backlit panel | 120–347V AC; selectable wattage up to 40W; 5-CCT | 4-pack; Sensor Base or No Sensor Base |
The listings describe 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, 5000K and 6500K options and 0–10V dimming. These are listing summaries, not permission to substitute one panel or driver for another. Confirm the ordered model against its label and current documentation. The same nominal wattage does not prove equal photometric performance.
Measure the ceiling before choosing a panel
Record the existing opening, grid arrangement, support method and above-ceiling space. Nominal formats are useful shopping labels; they are not cutting dimensions. A suitable grid installation does not automatically make the same panel suitable for drywall, a surface frame or suspension.
Give the installer a room-by-room schedule. For a mixed office, identify the grid workspace, solid-ceiling reception and exposed-ceiling rooms separately. Our recessed, surface and suspended mounting comparison explains why the fixture and mounting kit must be reviewed together.
Commercial voltage, selectable wattage and 5-CCT are separate checks
A 120–347V commercial voltage range addresses supply compatibility. It does not confirm the mounting hardware, dimming interface or light level. Ask the installer to check the supply and selected driver; ask the project designer to select output and colour settings for the actual rooms.
Write the agreed wattage and CCT on the order schedule, particularly when several rooms are delivered together. Colour temperature describes the appearance of the light, not its brightness. For further background, see choosing LED colour temperature.
Sensor-ready base versus without sensor base
The current product options distinguish Sensor Base and No Sensor Base. A sensor-ready base is not confirmation that a sensor is included, nor proof that an arbitrary PIR or microwave control will work. Request the exact compatible control and check whether the quote includes it, any required components and commissioning instructions.
For occupied offices, the installer should assess detection of seated people and the intended delay or dimming behaviour. A convenient product option is only useful when it suits how the space is occupied. Read our occupancy sensor guide before comparing control-related incentives.
Compare a Wholesale Price quote in fixtures and packs
Keep fixture quantity and pack count separate. As a purchasing example, six four-fixture packs contain 24 panels. That arithmetic does not determine how many lights the building needs; it only checks the order once a layout has been approved. Ask for any separately supplied mounting and sensor accessories to be listed alongside the fixtures.
A panel’s size, pack quantity and exact model number identify different parts of the order. Do not substitute one fixture for another from a similar-looking code. Ask Selix Kala to confirm the model-specific label and order reference before purchase. For Improve Mall, Concord pickup, confirm availability and collection arrangements first.
Ontario Instant Rebate review comes before the final order
Save on Energy Instant Discounts apply to qualifying equipment and eligible existing Ontario facilities. A DLC Listed claim should be checked against the exact qualified model and applicable measure. Neither a 2x2 size nor a sensor-ready base independently proves eligibility.
Minimum customer contributions are program conditions, not advertised panel prices. The applicable measure category determines the amount. Review the 2026 contribution table and conditions, then ask for a quote showing the confirmed discount. There is no separate customer rebate application, but business, installation and consent information is still required; eligible equipment must be installed within the program timeline.
Send one complete panel enquiry
- Installation address, building use and ceiling photographs.
- Required 1x4, 2x2 and 2x4 quantities, with pack counts kept separate.
- Confirmed model references, supply and mounting method.
- Preferred wattage, CCT, dimming and sensor configuration.
- Existing fixture details and proposed installation schedule.
Browse the commercial LED panel collection and request a product and rebate review. For a high-ceiling warehouse, compare the separate LED high bay range rather than choosing a ceiling panel by wattage alone.
Frequently asked panel buying questions
Which LED panel size is best for an Ontario office?
Start with the existing ceiling grid, measured opening and mounting method. Compare 1x4, 2x2 and 2x4 formats against the required lighting layout; size alone does not determine brightness or installation compatibility.
Does Sensor Base mean a motion sensor is included?
No. Confirm the compatible control, whether it is supplied and how it connects to the selected driver. Sensor-ready and sensor-included are different order configurations.
Are 1x4, 2x2 and 2x4 panels sold as four-packs?
The three current Selix Kala panel listings are four-fixture packs. Confirm ordered fixture quantities, pack counts and the exact option on your quote.
Is every DLC-labelled LED panel eligible for an Instant Rebate?
No. The exact qualified model, program measure and Ontario installation must meet the applicable requirements. A nominal size, collection label or sensor base does not establish eligibility.
Can I compare wholesale prices before confirming model numbers?
A useful preliminary comparison is possible, but the final quote should identify each model, electrical configuration, fixture quantity and accessory. Resolve any unclear code against the product label and written order before purchasing.
